The South African Police Service (SAPS) wishes all police officers that are taking part in the Cape Town Sanlam Marathon the best of luck. This year, 595 police officers are taking part in the two day marathon inclusive of the 10, 21 and 42 km race. The South African Police Service in the Westerrn Cape strongly condemns the violent shooting incident that claimed the lives of three young people in Samora Machel on Saturday morning, 24 January 2026. Serious and Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 11:55 in Oliver Tambo Drive. The victims were seated in a Suzuki Ertiga when they were approached by unknown suspects who opened fire before fleeing the scene. Three victims aged between 16 and 21
